Omar Bainto is a second year student at Carleton University enrolled in the Bachelor of Arts Honours program.

Omar was born and raised in Calgary, Alberta and lived there for over 18 years until he moved to Ottawa, Ontario to attend Carleton University in 2010. In Calgary, he was very involved in the community by volunteering his time for numerous organizations such as St. John’s Ambulance, Canadian Red Cross, Royal Canadian Air Cadets, the Distress Centre (Teen Line) and the Mayor’s Youth Council among others.

He received the highest honour of the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award by attaining the Gold Standard for outstanding community service. This award was presented to Omar by HRH Prince Edward, Earl of Wessex. In 2010, Omar received the Leaders of Tomorrow Award presented by Volunteer Calgary.

At Carleton, Omar has been an active member of the campus community being involved with the Carleton Academic Student Government (CASG) as a Representative for the Faculty of Public Affairs as well as the Chair of the Volunteer and Director Committee. He is the current Representative for the Department of Geography and Environmental Studies. Omar was also a member of the United Nations Society.

Off campus, Omar is a Community Demographics Researcher at Ecology Ottawa, one of the largest non-profit organizations in the city. He was an intern in the Office of Justin Trudeau, MP on Parliament Hill and was also an active member of the Rotaract Club of Ottawa.

Omar is the current President & Chief Financial Officer of the Rideau River Residence Association (RRRA) at Carleton University.
